Simple Tips for Effective Proofreading
Effective proofreading is all about paying attention. It’s about removing distractions, focussing on what you’re reading and taking it slowly. If you know how to write in correct English, then you’re able to proofread your own work. Here are some simple tips to help you proofread more effectively!
Don’t want to proofread? Don’t enjoy proofreading? Aren’t sure if your grammar is right? Then you need a professional proofreader to do the job for you! Send me a message today and see how I can help: louisepettycopywriting@outlook.com
My top tips for easy proofreading are:
Set aside 30 minutes to concentrate solely on proofreading your content, whether it’s a website, blog post, novel or annual report.
Start at the beginning and work through each page or section methodically.
Read every single word and every single sentence - don’t forget image descriptions, excepts and headings.
Read it again – you might’ve missed something the first time. When you’ve got to the end, re-read everything back through for a second time.
Make your corrections as you find them, so you don’t forget to do them.
When the 30 minutes is up, take a break and come back to the task later. Proofreading takes a lot of concentration and doing it for long spells causes you to switch off.
Take your time – small bursts of reading are better than trying to do everything all at once, otherwise you get ‘blind’ to your mistakes.
