1. Get Personal
Start your email by addressing the recipient directly, using their name. If you’re also able to use personalised content throughout the email then even better. Personalised emails make it seem like you’re speaking directly to your readers and haven’t just sent them a generic, catch-all sales email that isn’t relevant to them.
2. Start With the Subject
The subject line is the first thing that your email recipients will see so it needs to be well-thought-out and attention-grabbing. How can you entice your customers to open your email? This is often the first battle and you don’t want to lose people at the first fight. Make sure your email subject line is something enticing and interesting.
3. Use a Strong Opener
Get straight to the point and begin your email with a thought-provoking hook, like a question, a quote or an interesting fact. Aim to get your readers thinking and engaged from the first sentence so they’re keen to read on.
4. Benefits, Benefits, Benefits
Always use your sales emails to highlight the benefits of your product or service, rather than just listing the features. You need to explain why your product or service is essential to the person reading the email - how will it improve their life? How will it solve their problems? Why can’t they live without it?
5. Short and Sweet
No one likes to open an email and see lots of text, so keep your email content concise. The fewer words you can use the better, just choose them wisely.
6. Get Down on Their Level
Your sales emails should use language that resonates with your recipients. Use words that they’ll understand, examples that they’ll relate to and terms that make them think about what you’re offering.
7. Prove It
Your sales emails could include testimonials or quotes from satisfied customers to build credibility and trust with your readers. You could include screenshots of social media posts, photos or customer reviews to show how your product or service is useful in the real world.
8. Act Quickly!
Choose words for your email that create a sense of urgency and encourage the reader to take action there and then. Phrases like ‘don’t miss out’ or ‘limited availability’ put a bit of pressure on your email recipients to engage with you.
9. Click Here to Buy
In order to encourage those all-important sales, your sales email needs to include a clear Call to Action (CTA) for your customers. What do you want your readers to do after receiving the email? It could be to ‘request a demo’, ‘schedule a call’, ‘make an appointment’ or ‘buy now’. Make sure your CTA is prominent and easy to follow.
10. Remember This?
If your sales email isn’t as successful as you would’ve liked or hasn’t generated as many clicks as expected, then don’t be afraid to send a follow-up email. Remind your customers about your product or service and its benefits - did they see your last email? Remind them to act now so they don’t miss out.
